AI transparency statement

Version 1.0 · October 17, 2026

1In short

a·mm·a is an AI tool, not a clinician. In this beta, it uses AI to find the most relevant passages in recognised health sources and shows them to you with the source named. It doesn't diagnose, prescribe or replace your midwife, obstetrician or GP.

2Where answers come from

Every answer in beta v1 is a passage from one of these sources, shown with its name:

  • GOV.UK health guidance, including the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA)
  • US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) medicine labels, pregnancy and breastfeeding sections only

We're working to add more clinical guidance as permissions are confirmed, and we'll update this list as each source goes live.

If a·mm·a can't point to a recognised source, it says so rather than guessing.

3How the AI works in this beta

When you ask a question, AI is used to understand what you're asking and to search the source library for the passages that best match. a·mm·a then shows those passages, with their source.

In this version, a·mm·a does not write new answers with a generative AI model, and it doesn't draw on general knowledge from an AI model's training data. If we add generated answers later, we'll update this statement, the Privacy policy and the Terms, and tell you before it starts.

4Your data and the AI

  • Your personal data is stored and processed in the UAE, on Microsoft Azure UAE North.
  • No name, email or account identifier is sent to any AI model.
  • Nothing you share is used to train AI models.

The Privacy policy has the full detail.

5What a·mm·a doesn't do

  • It doesn't diagnose conditions or tell you what you have.
  • It doesn't prescribe, or tell you to start, stop or change medicine.
  • It doesn't replace your midwife, obstetrician, GP or any other clinician.
  • It isn't an emergency service and isn't monitored in real time.

We check answers before they're shown, to block wording that sounds like a diagnosis or an instruction about treatment.

6When it may not have the answer

a·mm·a tells you when it doesn't have the answer or when there may be risk, using a framework reviewed by our clinical board. When a question suggests you may need urgent care, it shows a prompt to seek help. That prompt can't be turned off, but it won't catch everything.

In an emergency in the UAE, call 998 (ambulance) or 999 (police), or contact your maternity unit.

7Human oversight

Clinicians review a·mm·a's answers and declined questions every week during the beta. Every version of the rules that guide a·mm·a is recorded, so we can always see which rules produced an answer.

8You'll always be told

Before your first question, the app tells you that a·mm·a is AI, not a clinician, and asks you to confirm you understand. If that wording changes, we'll ask you again.

9Report a wrong or unsafe answer

Use the feedback option in the app, or email hey@askmemama.com. Every report is reviewed.
